90% of all management problems are caused by miscommunication — Dale Carnegie
When you consider it, communication often occurs first at a feeling level. Becoming more aware and present elevates our ability to perceive more clearly and make different choices that drive win win outcomes.
What tools do you use to elevate your awareness and drive win win outcomes ?
One of the fundamental tools used in the Coaching and Consulting, Courageous Leadership Platform for driving win win outcomes is from the conversational intelligence framework.
It’s called priming for trust which begins first with priming ourselves and then others.
Priming ourselves for trust requires checking in on our leadership presence. Is your cortisol regulated, do you feel calm, happy, inspired or are you still jacked up from reading those emails first thing in the morning? Spiked cortisol levels can have a shelf life of 26 hours in our system.
Taking a few deep breathes to get centered is always a good idea.
Finding common ground activates oxytocin and connection. Consider common ground questions in advance of a meeting.
Expressing appreciation is also always a good idea and can also be exercised in advance of a meeting.
Considering your outcome as win win from the beginning creates a connection of shared success and serves to create momentum for trust throughout the conversation/meeting. The more this occurs, the more you create loyalty where studies show that team members are more likely to go above and beyond as a result.
If our brain defaults to focusing on what’s wrong 80% of the time, then doing any number of the above and more can serve to immediately establish trust and down regulate fear/cortisol levels.
Fortune 500 companies such as Bank of America, Pfizer, and Verizon have trained their teams in this methodology to build trust, innovate, expand sales and improve culture. It’s an integral part of the Courageous Leadership Platform.
If you considered your leadership presence before speaking a word, just think what might be possible if every conversation we had was heartfelt, intelligent and win win.
